Types of Safes and How To Choose One
Does your business handle cash or checks? Do you need to protect confidential documents or data? To
protect your vital business assets you need a commercial grade safe.
A regular cabinet with a key can secure your valuables from paying eyes, it won't protect them from theft or
fire. Security safe provides an extra level of protection.
Since safes are a long-term investments, it is important to get a sense for what you will need to protect both
now and in the future before you choose a model.
You want to make sure that the safe will fit into its designated place. And you also want enough internal space
to store your valuables. So, measure both the internal and the external dimensions.
Keep in mind that a large safe does not necessarily insure greater security.
Media Safes for Software Protection
Media safes are designed to protect disks and cassette tapes from fire. These materials have special requirements
because they are more fragile than paper documents. Diskettes, for example, can be ruined at temperatures far
below the 176 degrees Celsius maximum specified for papers. They also require humidity below certain level.
Due to these requirements, media safes tend to be very expensive. You may instead consider a fire rated filing cabinet or safe that will provide
adequate protection.
